The Islamic Republic of Iran annually produces 120 tonnes of saffron and exports 75 percent of the total figure.
Announcing the above, Head of Saffron Export Development Fund Ali Shariatmadari said that establishment of saffron export cluster was a positive step towards expansion of Iran`s competitiveness in global market.
"Once the cluster could direct saffron production towards optimism and productivity, Iran will get remarkable success not only in production but also in processing, packaging and exporting the crop," he added.
Achieving the aims will result in stabilization of Iran`s status in the global markets and in this way the consumers will be attracted by Iran`s saffron which enjoys higher quality, he added.
Announcing that demands for Iranian saffron has been remarkably increased in recent years, Shariatmadari added that the fact is the result of Iranian exporters effort to introduce saffron medical uses, modernize packaging systems and enjoy active presence in international gatherings and exhibitions.
The efforts have decupled Iran`s` saffron export during the recent 15 years, he said.
He said Iran`s annual saffron production exceeds 120 tonnes of which 75 percent is exported to the international markets.
